Running Nose, Irritating Cough and Raspy Throat aren’t really the kind of travel companions you want to travel with when you have to fly to a workshop. I prefer to travel by myself but those three rascals think traveling in a big group is even more fun. Therefore, they also invite the two scoundrels Fiery Fever and Acute Earache on our way to Tromsø to join the group. Since this isn’t the first time I’m visiting Tromsø, I take my travel companions on a sightseeing tour and I show them interesting things like the pharmacy, different health stores and what kind of useful things you can by there for fighting bad company. And it seems to work because Acute Earache and Fiery Fever a so disgusted by the ginger juice that they leave the group during the next night.
There isn’t much time left this weekend for exploring the city besides of the workshop but I can set aside a couple of hours for strolling through the city anyway. Tromsø is also known for being the “Paris of the North” and the eccentric architecture of some buildings in Tromsø really separate Tromsø from all other towns in northern Norway.
But Tromsø is also known for having the northernmost brewery in the world. And when I see the tilting of some buildings I really wonder if the architect hadn’t had too much beer before drawing the sketch.
But among all these modern buildings I also detect several old colorful houses.
Raspy Throat is so much impressed by this sightseeing tour that he is reduced to silence. At least he shuts up for a while.
Normally I’m hardly interested in going sightseeing in a town. I rather like to drift from one interesting place to another and on that way I prefer to look into the side streets and all the secret corners. Because it is there you normally find the real soul of a town.
But the most surprisingly fact about Tromsø is how often I see my favorite colors because pink and violet are’t to everybody’s taste. I mean how many of you would paint their houses in pink?
This weekend was far too short to explore all of Tromsø’s interesting locations. On Monday evening, me and my two remaining travel companions Running Nose and Irritating Cough took the Hurtigruten ship MS Finnmarken in order to travel back to Kirkenes. But this is a different story that I will tell you next time.
