What to do when the temperature rises above zero already at the end of February and raindrops are dropping against the window? Not even my dogs want to go out in this kind of weather. I nestle down in the sofa with a cup of tea, get lost in my thoughs and finally I think back to two nice skiing trips that I have done at the beginning of this month.

At the beginning of February I visited a friend of mine in Skelleftehamn in Sweden. Skelleftehamn is situated directly at the Gulf of Bothnia which is the northernmost arm of the Baltic Sea and is situated between Sweden and Finnland. The sea water was frozen so that we could do a skiing trip on two consecutive days on the sea ice. However, the weather put on two different faces: Storm and wind on the first day and bright sunshine on the second day.

We started both trips by skiing to the isle of Storgrundet and then we crossed this island. From the other side of Storgrundet you can see a small island without a name and on the first day we headed to the north of this island.

Strong winds, snow drift and the vastness of the landscape gave us the feeling of beging on an expedition to one of the poles of this planet.

After a while, a peninsula appeared in front of us on which some summer cabins are standing. Everything was covered with snow but at least we could find some shelter from the wind between the houses.

Blue sky and sunshine were our travelling companions on the second day while we were skiing to the isle of Storgrundet and to the nameless small island.

This time we turned to the south to an island called Norrskärsgrundet.

There, snow banks and snow feathers were inspiring objects to take pictures of.

And on the way back I had to take a selfie in this immense vastness of the landscape.
