15.01.2020: Although the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon before 17th of January, nevertheless I try to get a glimpse of her already today. I haven’t seen the sun for two months and, therefore, I am really looking forward to see the sun again.

But it is cloudy today and I can only guess where the sun might come up at the end of the Langfjord (long fjord) for the first time in a couple of days.

17.01.2020: Today it should be possible to see the sun. At work, I am going on a training run with some of our dogs on the Langfjord. But when I come to the fjord, it is even more cloudy than two days ago. Only a very small red stripe can be seen on the horizon. But it was only after I went up to the mountains that the clouds disappear. But also this time, I can only guess where the sun might be. And only half an hour later, the sky is pastel-colored which is quite typically for the winter time.

18.01.2020: And also today the clouds gang up against us and wrap up the sun. In addition, it is quite cold today: -25ºC. Therefore, my two dogs Leif and Taiga really enjoy lying next to the fireplace after they had been out for a walk.

19.01.2020: During the night, the temperature dropped to -35ºC. At the northern side of the Langfjord, I can clearly see where the ice cover ends. A thick wall of steam lies over the open water. But at the southern end of the fjord, I can finally see the sun. It isn’t a perfect golden disc, but after two months of “mørketid” (polar night) it doesn’t matter how the sun looks like. I am just happy to see the sun again.

And how do I celebrate the return of the sun? Wine? Sparkling wine? Champagne? No, with hot water!
